He is born to a Punjabi father and a Bengali mother.  His father used to run a traveling Parsi theater company, and his mother was a good classical singer and a poet.  His Parsi theater plays include 'Laila Majnu, 'Harischandra', 'Bhakta Prahlad', 'Shirin-Farhad', 'Shree Krishna Avtar', 'Qatl-e-Tamizan' and 'Dahi Wali'.  He has also acted in modern plays namely 'Antim Yatra', 'The Great God Brown', 'Three Sisters', 'The Zoo Story' and 'Ek Ruka Hua Faisla'.

Annu has done graduation from National School of Drama, New Delhi. He made his Bollywood debut in 1983 by playing the role of a doctor in Shyam Benegal's directed movie 'Mandi'.  Annu has played the role of a police inspector in the film '7 Khoon Maaf' (2011),  and a petty thief in the film 'Utsav' (1984).  Some of his movies include 'Damul' (1985), 'Mr. India' (1987), 'Elaan-E-Jung' (1989), 'Arjun Pandit' (1999)  and 'Aitraaz' (2004). He portrayed the character of Advocate Nawab Mehmood Shah in the film 'Dharam Sankat Mein' (2015).

So it is fine that Akshay fans can enjoy watching this film on its general release date. However, the bench of Judges of Supreme Court has asked the petitioner Fox Star Studios to appear before High Court on February 6 and fight the case there.
